Ballard Soccer Programs

Ages for Soccer - All affiliates of US soccer agree that "AGE" is that of the player as of July 31 of the current year. Teams and ages are referred to as U (under) then an age. For example 10 year olds play on U11 teams.

MICRO SOCCER

  • Age 4 - 6 as of July 31 of the current year

  • Registration fee - $70

  • Players will receive a souvenir Jersey which they keep at the end of the season.

  • Season - 8 weeks in September and October

  • Games - Saturdays in Ballard

  • Girls and boys may play on the same teams.

  • Team Practices will start in late August. The practice time (usually once a week) is determined by the volunteer coaches who make every effort to find a time suitable for all players on the team.

Micro Soccer is beginning soccer. U-5, U-6 and U-7 teams (4, 5 & 6 yr.), play "Micro" soccer. It involves short games on small fields with no goalie, pop-up goals, and 3 players to a side. Games are two 20 minute periods. This allows these young players plenty of opportunity to run and get a maximum number of touches on the ball, without worrying a lot about playing positions. Coed U-5 teams are planned to have small rosters of 6 players; Coed U-6 and Coed U-7 teams have rosters of up to 12 and play two games simultaneously. Micro teams play only other BYSC micro teams. The emphasis is on beginning skills of ball handling and passing. Scores are not kept and there are no standings. Shorts, shin guards, soccer cleats, and a ball (size 3) must be provided by each player. Since there are not a lot of practice fields in Ballard, micro teams are not assigned practice fields

SUMMER SOCCER

Because of field constraints there is no summer team program offered by Ballard Youth Soccer Club. There are numerous summer camps available so check out or Camps page. Spring soccer is run by SYSA.

MOD REFEREE PROGRAM

  • Age 9 - 13 (typical)

  • Date - same as Mod season

  • Location - Ballard

  • Fee - none, in fact the Mod referees are paid per game.

  • Coordinator - Nick Heilgeist (see About Us page for contact info.)

  • Training - A training clinic will held in late summer for candidates that are not certified referees, but we recommend anyone intersted in refereeing obtain their Grade 8 referee certification.

The Mod Ref Program allows players ages 9 and older to assist our Club by refereeing our Mod Soccer games. It is a means for players to develop their leadership skills and their understanding of the game. They also enjoy the opportunity to teach our younger players the game they have come to enjoy. Many go on to become assistant coaches or association referees as they grow older.
