Congratulations to the BU12 Ballard Invisible Fish! On December 14th, 2013 they won the Washington Youth Soccer (WYS) Recreational Championship.

The boys started their journey playing in the WYS District 1 tournament during the final weeks of regular season. In the final round of group play the Invisible Fish beat the Lake Stevens Sounders 2-0 to be the District 1 Champions. The Sounders knocked the Invisible Fish out of State Cup play last year so the victory was sweet for the boys. To keep focused, the weekend after regular season concluded, the Fish played and won the Mukilteo Turkeyshoot tournament.

The Recreation Cup Quarter-finals on Dec 7th, found the boys in Woodinville playing a night game against North Bend FC Pumas from District 2 who hadn't lost a game all season. The temp was 19 degrees and the players' bench became a minivan parked by the sideline. The boys played well throughout the field limiting North Bend FC's shots on goal. The Fish offense netted once each half with goals from both strikers for a 2-0 victory. The boys and families celebrated their trip to the finals with a post game chili tailgating party in the freezing cold.

State Cup Semi-final kicked off at December 14th at 9AM in the Stadium at Starfire in Tukwila where the Sounders and Reign play. The team name was posted on the scoreboard, the players walked on international style and the National Anthem was sung to start the game. The stoked boys came out strong and scored their first goal against FC Santos from District 5 and added one more before half. Santos battled and picked up a late goal but the Fish answered quickly to close the game out 3-1. The boys were back a couple hours later at 2PM for the final game against District 3 Federal Way FC Thunderbolts. The Fish netted a first half goal with a half volley from Aidan on a cross from Zachary. After several Fish shots deflected off the woodwork and unable to convert their chances in the 2nd half, the Invisible Fish rode the goalkeeping and defense to a 1-0 victory.

The following players were selected to the Golazo Best XI: Aidan Calderon (fwd), Jaxon Calderwood (GK), Hans Keating (M) and Everett Hartley (D). A strong team effort from all the players over many games and practices proved them all champions. The Invisible Fish are: Aidan Calderon, Evan Kneeland, Everett Hartley, Gavin Cooley, Hans Keating, Harrison Kaufman, Jaxon Calderwood, John Lochner, John Romano-Olsen, Kyler Miles, Nathaniel (Nat) Nimmer, Nicholas McCarve, Owen Hagar, Sebastian Pollick, William Hegstrom and Zachary Bosse-Thomsen. A special note of thanks for the hard work to the Coaches Andrew Westmark, Joseph Hagar, John Keating and Manager Elizabeth Wong.

The WSY Recreation Cup starts in November during regular season with group play. Each of the seven districts in WYS hosts a tournament to select their champion who then moves into single elimination play against the other districts. The tournament culminates at Starfire with the semi and finals for the Recreational Championship.

The Invisible Fish play for Ballard Youth Soccer Club, which is one of the premier recreational clubs in Washington State. Ballard Youth Soccer Club hosts teams for boys and girls ages 4-18. Ballard Youth Soccer plays in Seattle Youth Soccer Association with 13 other clubs consisting of 13,000 players.
